Hyperpigmentation and Hypopigmentation

06 Ocak 2009

Pigmentation is the coloring of a person’s skin. When a person is healthy, his or her skin will appear normal in color. In the case of illness or injury, the person’s skin may change color, becoming darker (hyperpigmentation) or lighter (hypopigmentation).
Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is caused by an increase in melanin, the substance in the body that is responsible for color (pigment). Certain conditions, such as pregnancy or Addison’s disease (decreased function of the adrenal gland), may cause a greater production of melanin and hyperpigmentation. Exposure to sunlight is a major cause of hyperpigmentaion, and will darken already hyperpigmented areas.

Hyperpigmentation can also be caused by various drugs, including some antibiotics, antiarrhythmics, and antimalarial medication. Yazının tamamını okuyun »

Can You Beat Cellulite?

06 Ocak 2009

Perhaps nothing is cuter than a pair of dimples accentuating your smile. But it’s not so cute when dimples turn up on your thighs, buttocks, tummy, and upper arm.

The problem is cellulite, fatty deposits of dimpled skin that can appear on even the most fabulously thin body.

“That’s because cellulite is not a fat problem, it’s a skin problem. It has nothing to do with what you weigh, or how much weight you lose,” says Hollywood dermatologist Howard Murad, MD, author of The Cellulite Solution. Yazının tamamını okuyun »

Relevance of EMGs in Diagnosing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

06 Ocak 2009

Several Bloggers have discussed having the problem of feeling pain and discomfort that is radiating into their hands - one, Mike, a patient of the Mayo clinic - had neck surgery then experienced pain in the distributions of median nerve.

EMG test presumably failed to confirm carpal tunnel syndrome (reported as “negative”). But surgery was recommended. I presume to decompress the median nerve at the wrist AKA carpal tunnel release. Yazının tamamını okuyun »

“slow Growing” malignant tumor on pancreas

06 Ocak 2009

Hello,

I had CT scan of lungs in August and a lesion was found on my pancreas. I was sent to have MRI which revealed a 1 cm malignant slow growing tumor on the tail of my pancreas. I was told because it is “slow Growing” they watch it for a few months. I had a CT scan 1 year ago and it was not there. I am 39 years old with multiple health problems (lupus, celiac blood clotting disorder and thyroid problems) Has anyont had this before, and what is the protocol on this. Everything I read says to remove and biopsy, so then why was this not suggested but was told it is malignant? Yazının tamamını okuyun »

Secondary liver cancer, no primary found.

06 Ocak 2009

Hi,
My father in his 70’s has recently been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer( adonoma carcinoma I think) and they have been unable to find the primary cancer. The liver cancer was disovered during an unrelated scan. At this stage is has been about 5 months since his diagnosis and there has been no treatment to date, he feels fine and is fit and active.
Has anyone here had any experience with this cancer and tell me what to expect?

Just need to talk a little

06 Ocak 2009

Hello, My name is Kasey and I just found out last week my youngest brother has been diagnosed with brain cancer. He had been having some odd moments like he went for a walk in the woods behind his house and got lost less than 200 yards from his house, he forgot how to tie his shoes, little things like that. Then last week he got an awful headache, his wife took him to the hospital and they immediately rushed him to Darthmouth-Hitchcock hospital for surgery. They told us it was the worst cancer he could get (please forgive me I forgot the name of it) and were unable to get it all. He now has partial paralysis and is blind in his left eye. They are moving him to a cancer center and wll try chemo and radiation. We have a meeting with his doctor next week. I am a total bundle of nerves over everything. He is only 53 and I love him so much. I am just getting over surgery myself and my husband of 35 years may or may not have a health issue. I feel totallly overwhelmed right now. I guess I just needed to write it down and hopefully someone will read this and say Hi. Thank you.

Esophageal cancer

06 Ocak 2009

Am trying to find some info on a new treatment for esophageal cancer called Cyrospray ablation. Has anyone heard of it or had it done??

You should also ask about this on the acid reflux board. They are up on many new things, perhaps someone there will have information for you. Good luck to you. FLFLOWERGIRL

I understand it is being used for Barrett’s Esophagus and very early stage cancers and high and low grade dysplasia There aren’t many sites with the ability to administer this treatment at this time. Good luck.
